HOME >> COMPANY Quanlight’s goal is to dominate the high power yellow-amber-red (YAR) light-emitting diode (LED) market with the company’s patent-pending LED technology. For the initial target markets of LCD backlighting, projection light engines for televisions, signage, traffic signaling, architectural, and theatrical lighting, our LED technology creates significant competitive advantages. The Quanlight chip: Quanlight’s technology was developed in the Jacobs School of Engineering at the University of California, San Diego by Charles Tu, Ph.D. and Vladimir Odnoblyudov, Ph.D., leading experts on novel material systems and semiconductor devices. The company was founded in early 2006 to transfer the YAR LED technology from the university to commercial markets. The size of the addressed YAR LED wafer market is currently $500 million with the high brightness segment growing at 60% per year. Quanlight has an exclusive license from UCSD for this patent-pending technology and has subsequently filed additional provisional patents further strengthening its technology portfolio. Prototype chips are scheduled to be available for sampling by customers by October 2007. About the Quanlight Team: |
